Ilonggo artist and UPV professor Ed Defensor elucidates a pictorial comparison of “The Lady of Freedom,” the iconic classical sculpture on top of dome of Washington Capitol and “Ang Lin-ay Sang Iloilo,” the bronze iconic neo-classical sculpture which stands on the dome of New Iloilo City Hall.

It was actually the “Lady of Freedom” which provided the inspiration to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog for “Ang Lin-ay Sang Iloilo,” Defensor notes.

“I hope this can illumine some questions in our minds about the relevance and importance of public art such as these two,” he stresses.
