Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog is strongly pushing for the realization of an action plan for effective implementation of continuing cleanup of Iloilo River and one of its major tributaries Dungon Creek in Jaro district.

“We will make a plan to finally dredge and cleanup the river. This is part of the Iloilo River initiatives with Dungon creek as a tributary. We have to make an action plan so as not to waste time, resources and energy,” he stressed.

The mayor will meet with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) together with City Engineer and City Environment and Natural Resources Office to finalize the plan.

Mabilog noted that Dungon Creek stretches from the Diversion Bridge down to barangays Magsaysay, Bolilao, Bakhaw, Desamparados, Taytay Zone II, Calubihan, Cuartero, Dungon A, Dungon B, Sambag, and Ungka, Jaro.

He added that these barangays were most affected by the flooding brought about by Typhoon Frank in 2008. Thus, there’s an urgent need to implement cleanup and clearing operations on Dungon Creek to prevent possible overflow during rainy and stormy season.

“We can do so much by pooling our resources to conduct cleanup activities through the active participation, support and cooperation of stakeholders for the protection of our waterways,” said Mabilog.
