Lenten traditions in Iloilo and Guimaras took spotlights in Ilonggo filmmaking.
Emerging Ilonggo filmmaker Ronny Poblacion said his film’s artistic treatments showcased Good Friday’s Pagtaltal in Balaan Bukid, Jordan, Guimaras; Palm Sunday in Badiangan and Procession in Cabatuan.
He identified 28 locations all over the province with most of the sequences shot in Janiuay for his first full-length feature Beadworks as one of the finalists of First Sineng Pambansa (National Cinema) Competition of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) slated in Davao City in June 2012.
“We have bright future ahead if we can revive and achieve the Ilonggo Dream of making Iloilo as the filmmaking capital of the Visayas,” stressed Janiuay-born Poblacion.
Beadworks is Poblacion’s first full length feature film since he has been doing a lot of shorts.
He also shot at Shanghai Bazaar in downtown Calle Real known for selling beads and a fashion shop at Robinsons Place Iloilo.
“The region-based filmmakers are now contributing their outstanding talent and creativity to the making of a true Sineng Pambansa,” said FDCP Chairman Briccio Santos.
A unique aspect of the competition is that the language of the locality is being used in dialogue or narration, in order to underscore the vitality of the country’s indigenous cultural heritage through the medium of film.
