Jaro, Iloilo City topped the distribution of “May they Be One” (MTBO) Bible in the Visayas Region, the Biblical Commission of the archdiocese revealed.
In its effort to make God’s good news reach every family, the Jaro Archdiocesan Commission on Biblical apostolate distributed at least 21,000 bibles from 2009 -2011.
“Our effort to make the Word of God better read, known and lived must continue to be urgent and relentless,” Jaro Archbishop Angel N. Lagdameo stressed in a circular.
The Biblical Apostolate staff attributed the high number of distribution to the efforts of parishes, catechists and Catholic communities such as the Divine Mercy Community, said Fr. Mickey Cardenas, director of Theological Centrum.
In a span of three years, a total of 21,181 bibles were distributed including 7,820 bibles in 2011; 8,139 bibles in 2010 and 5,222 bibles in 2009.
The celebration of Bible Week in Jaro is extended until February 4 even as the nation celebrated National Bible Week January 23-29.
A Bible Enthronement ceremony and an “On the Spot Bible Quiz” will be held in SM City Iloilo on February 4 with participation of Catholic school students.
The demand for bibles in Iloilo is expected to remain high as the project is extended until 2015.
Lagdameo encouraged all diocesan and religious clergy, religious superiors, heads of Catholic schools and lay faithful to do their part to spread God’s words of wisdom in their respective jurisdictions.
Fr. Elmo Cary Montaño, director of Jaro biblical commission is very willing to assist anyone who would call on them for their bible-related activities. (with CBCP news)
