Iloilo City jumps six notches higher in the global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) map by ranking 92nd in the Tholons 2012 Top 100 Outsourcing Destinations in the world. The metropolis placed 98th in the 2010 ranking.
“This shows that Iloilo City is really making a mark as an international outsourcing destination. We can use this recognition in attracting and inviting outsourcing companies and investors to the City,” stressed Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog.
“Iloilo experienced a significant rise as aggressive development in infrastructure and capabilities development are pursued,” Tholons said in its study released this month.
The metropolis has seen fast-rising infrastructure developments for the IT-BPO sector including newly-opened Ayala Techno Hub and the planned Iloilo Business Park by Megaworld Corp. in Mandurriao district.
The past year has set the stage for a determined push to accelerate IT-BPO industry in Southeast Asian cities comprising a mix of established, emerging and on the radar locations, Tholons assessed.
Manila NCR maintained its fourth place topping the Southeast Asian rankings, Cebu stayed at ninth place and Davao at 69th place while Sta. Rosa Laguna moved two notches up to 86thplace.
These cities remain as ideal outsourcing hotbeds in the Philippines which is touted as the world’s call center capital even as the industry eyes Southeast Asia as a dominant force in the global outsourcing landscape.
Thus, addressing talent pool shortages will be the most critical issue in the Southeast Asian region’s IT-BPO industry as a whole to further drive its growth, the Tholons report added.
