The Iloilo City Government with the help of private sponsors will light up 400 flying paper lanterns during the New Year’s countdown midnight Dec. 31 after a program at Muelle Loney near Post Office in Aduana, City Proper.

The glittering lanterns will not just be for the enjoyment of the Ilonggos and visitors but will provide a brighter hope for the flood victims left by Sendong.

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said that “even a small amount could spell a big difference – what’s important is that we are doing our share to help.”

The initiative “Kapawa sang Paglaum: Tabang para sa mga Biktima sang Baha sa Mindanao” aims to symbolize a new hope for fellow Filipinos in need in the flood-stricken communities in the South.

The proceeds from the sale of lanterns will be sent to flood victims in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City.

It’s time for the Ilonggos to give back and share something for Sendong victims to also rise from the tragedy like what the city overcame in the aftermath of Typhoon Frank three years ago.

The 2nd Iloilo City New Year’s Countdown promises a spectacular 30-minute Pyro-Musical Aerial Fireworks Display that will bring a wonderful, happier and brighter celebration in welcoming a prosperous new year.
