Single parents will have their chances to avail themselves of additional discounts and benefits soon.
This, after the House approved proposed amendments to Republic Act 8972 or Solo Parents Welfare Act.
Besides educational and housing benefits, qualified single parents may also avail of 10% discount on children’s clothing material and 15% discount on baby’s milk, food and food supplements purchased 2 years from childbirth.
It is also proposed that 15% discount on all purchases of medicines for children 5 years old and below will be provided.
To avail of expanded benefits, single parents are required to present ID’s issued by city or municipal social welfare and development officer.
Individuals and corporations that would violate the legislation will be penalized with a P10,000 to P100,000 fine and imprisonment of 6 months to 2 years.
The proposed law is authored by You Against Poverty and Corruption (Yacap) party-list Rep. Carol Jayne Lopez.
This is expectedly a big helping hand to parents who raise one’s children single-handedly.
