Iloilo Freedom Grandstand remains the center stage as the venue of opening program of Dinagyang Festival 2012, organizers finally decided through a resolution filed Dec. 12.

The Dinagyang Festival Executive Board of Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc.(IDFI) designated Freedom Grandstand as judging area No. 1; front of old Iloilo Provincial Capitol – No. 2; Huervana-Luna Lapaz (Injap Bldg-Andoks-Gaisano City intersection) – No. 3 and Iloilo Sports Complex – No. 4, said City Tourism Officer Benito Jimena.

The board chaired by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and co-chaired by IDFI president Ramon Cua Locsin and Fr. Achilles Secio, OSA considered the proximity of opening venue due to security reasons as well as to lessen the needed preparation time prior the start of the activity.

Foreign dignitaries are expected to attend the celebration at the Freedom Grandstand which starts after a morning mass at the nearby San Jose Parish Church across Plaza Libertad and adjacent to New City Hall.

The inclusion of Iloilo Sports Complex as one of the judging areas was meant to accommodate more spectators considering it can accommodate some 8,000 people.

The three-day highlights of Dinagyang 2012 will kick off on Jan. 20 with a fluvial procession.

The Kasadyahan Festival cultural presentation will unfurl Jan. 21 while the Ati-ati tribes competition will be showcased Jan. 22.
